An elderly couple from Perlis were spotted diligently crafting handmade wau at the Malaysia International Craft Fair 2026, even as the event was winding down for the evening.

According to the visitor who shared the video, it was around 9pm when they noticed the couple still carefully working, with the intricate details of each wau being completed by hand.

The man was described as an Adiguru in wau making, recognised for his expertise and experience in the traditional Malaysian craft.

When asked whether there was a younger generation learning the skill, the couple shared that their child and grandchild are among those being trained, alongside another four to five individuals.

Their dedication to both practising the craft and passing their knowledge on offers a glimpse into how Malaysia’s traditional wau-making heritage continues from one generation to the next. 🪁🇲🇾
