Malaysian esports athlete Taj Izrin Aiman Taj Madira made history after winning the Gran Turismo 7 (GT7) event at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games in Japan, securing Malaysia’s second gold medal of the Games.
The 27-year-old competed across three races at Aichi Sky Expo on 23 September, finishing second in the first two races before winning the final race to finish with 36 points overall and claim the title.
The achievement also saw Taj Izrin become Malaysia’s first esports representative to win an Asian Games gold medal. At the previous Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games, Malaysia earned esports silver in Arena of Valor and bronze in Dota 2.
From the virtual racing track to the top of the Asian Games podium, Taj Izrin’s achievement marks a new milestone for Malaysian esports on the international stage. 🎮🇲🇾
