Malaysia’s Adeola Fay Robert has delivered the country’s first gold medal at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games in Japan.
The 20-year-old Sabah-born karate athlete defeated Iran’s Fatemehzahra Saeidabadi 6–4 in the women’s under-55kg kumite final at Toyohashi Gymnasium on 22 September, securing gold in her debut appearance at the Asian Games.
Adeola’s victory also ended Malaysia’s 12-year wait for a women’s karate gold at the Asian Games, following Syakilla Salni’s triumph at Incheon 2014. Adeola had previously won bronze at the 2025 SEA Games in Thailand.
As Negaraku played in Japan following her victory, the moment marked a major milestone in Adeola’s young sporting career and a proud start to Malaysia’s gold medal tally at the Games. 🇲🇾👏
