Malaysia’s electric vehicle industry is gaining momentum as PROTON expands production at its EV plant in Automotive High-Tech Valley (AHTV), Tanjong Malim, supporting the country’s ambition to become a regional xEV manufacturing hub. 🇲🇾⚡🚗

According to the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI), the facility involved in assembling the Proton e.MAS 7 PHEV received an initial investment of RM82 million, with another RM37 million set to increase annual production capacity from 20,000 to 42,000 units.

The initiative will also see 30% of components sourced from local suppliers, strengthening Malaysia’s automotive supply chain while supporting high-value employment and skills development within the growing electric mobility sector.

As investment and local participation continue to expand, MITI said it remains committed to developing a competitive and highly skilled xEV ecosystem, further positioning Malaysia as a key player in the region’s automotive future. 🇲🇾⚡
