A 10-year-old Malaysian student is heading to the world stage after securing first place at the Hippo English The Contest 2026 Play-Off Qualifier Round in Doha, Qatar. 🇲🇾📚🏆
Wan Harriz Wan Abdul Qayyum, a Year Four student from SK Tasek Utara, Johor Bahru, emerged champion of the international qualifying round, earning him a place at the World Final Round in Spoleto, Italy, this October.
The Hippo English Without Borders competition brings together more than 90,000 participants from over 70 countries, assessing young participants across English-language skills including reading, writing, listening, speaking and grammar.
Malaysia also celebrated another strong performance through Eshant Ashvik Shashidara of SK Infant Jesus Convent, Johor Bahru, who finished fifth in the Qatar round.
With his victory in Doha, Wan Harriz will now represent Malaysia in Italy, where he will compete alongside young talents from around the world for the final stage of the competition. All the best, Wan Harriz! 🇲🇾❤️
